Visual Merchandising: How to Make Products Visible and Engaging
From assortment analysis to customized product presentation
Why do some products immediately catch our eye while we walk right past others? The answer often lies not in the product alone, but also in the way it is presented.
Visual Merchandising Starts with the Product
Visual merchandising combines store design and product knowledge with an understanding of customer behavior. The aim is to clearly structure even extensive assortments, make products more visible and create a more attractive and inspiring shopping experience.
At Interstore, visual merchandising starts with a detailed analysis of the assortment and its potential. Which products does the assortment include? How do they differ? What makes their origin, production methods or traditions distinctive? And which products work well together?
From Assortment Analysis to Product Story
Based on the assortment analysis, we develop the look & feel, graphic language and suitable storytelling and product presentation elements. Information about origin, production, producers or product characteristics can be integrated directly into the presentation.
To do this, we develop custom visual merchandising tools. Storytelling can be integrated into furniture, walls and shelving or developed into a cohesive themed environment across an entire department. This approach follows Interstore's established use of customized displays and storytelling elements.
This is how “talking fixtures” are created: fixtures that remain discreet and keep the focus on the product. They can communicate relevant product information even when specialist staff are not present.
Product arrangement and cross-merchandising are also part of visual merchandising and can generate additional sales.
„Legends of Europe“ for Hen House Market
For the planned cheese department at Hen House Market in Kansas City, Interstore is developing a visual merchandising concept for Balls Food Stores. The key challenge is to clearly organize a wide variety of products while presenting them in a way that is emotional, fresh and inspiring.
The starting point is a detailed assortment analysis to understand the products and their potential. Building on this, we developed “Legends of Europe”, a storytelling concept centered around origin, tradition and European cheese culture.
The custom-developed visual merchandising tools are designed to highlight the cheese department and further enhance its presentation.
