A concept with a maritime touch

The E.Leclerc market in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, located on the west coast of France, is set to open in summer 2026 after an intense renovation. Spanning 5,000 m², this hypermarket represents the second Design & Build + Waterloop project for Leclerc of the year and Schweitzer’s seventh project in France.

Yann Goudy, owner of the store, on the new concept:
“The new store concept is built around the ambition of offering customers a genuine shopping experience while showcasing craftsmanship and professional expertise.”

The design concept combines contemporary retail elements with strong local influences. Situated directly on the Atlantic coast, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is defined by its distinctive maritime identity and architecture featuring white façades and terracotta roof tiles. These characteristics were incorporated into the design concept developed by Interstore and served as the foundation for a modern store environment.

Particular emphasis was placed on creating a strong graphic identity and redesigning the layout of the store’s central area.

In the entrance area, the bakery and snack bar have been strategically positioned. A double-sided counter was implemented alongside a new seating area designed to encourage customers to relax and enjoy their visit.

The fresh food departments form a central “fresh market square” at the heart of the store, enhanced by the placement of various fresh food islands. The fish department is the only fresh food section located along the perimeter, while remaining visually open to the other fresh food areas.

It plays a central role within the overall concept and serves as the highlight of the entire store.

Stay tuned for more updates ahead of the opening.
